The cooling performance of Air-cooled heat exchangers depends on different parameters such as the process temperatures, flowrates, ,the mechanical state of the equipment, weather and the fouling conditions. Often the impact of those parameters to the cooling performance is not explicitly monitored and analyzed. In this way significant opportunities for improvement are missed.
With conventional inspection methods it is very cumbersome and expensive to keep an eye on the mechanical condition of Air-cooled heat exchangers. Also the amount of information obtained from these methods is limited. For this reason industry is reliant on obsolete and expensive maintenance strategies for Air-cooled heat exchangers. This results in high maintenance cost and increased downtime.
